  SOUTH CAROLINA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Island is in full swing getting ready for Carnival....  This is the Mexican version of Mardi Gras...  A big party before the Christian season of Lent, where traditionally good Christians (especially good Catholics) gave up eating and drinking all things considered "good" as a sign of penance as Good Friday approached...., (See 7 years of theological training wasn't completely wasted)
Shelley being silly on the big performance stage set up at City Hall....
Phoning "home"
The whole island is being decorated as we prepare for the BIG party!
This year Cozumel will be holding the festivities at the city hall, rather than the town square, where they are traditionally held...  The square is still under re-construction and was not completed in time....
While the festivities "officially" begin on the 11th, We have involved with a number of island events already.  The first was a "Ladies Only" event where Margaret and Shelley and a bunch of their friends dressed up as the Maleficent character and danced their way into second place at the event...
SECOND PLACE!
The next night we attended the Red Cross "Charity Casino Night" and stayed up WAY too late...  the weekend ended with 20 friends at "the NO Name Bar" watching the New England Patriots, squeak by the Seattle Seahawks in a great Superbowl Bash that included a steak dinner for $25....
What a crazy weekend!
Last week, Shelley and I did a bunch of teaching and got to know some great people....
Our friend Cheleche guiding some snorkelers above us....
This weekend saw another Norte arrive and the port was closed on Friday but not before Mike and Margaret invited Shelley and I to join them for an afternoon cruise on their personal boat, Winning Ticket.
Cheleche, Shelley and Pancho
With their two crewmen, Pancho (Captain) and Cheleche (Mate) we had a delightful 3 hour cruise where we enjoyed another beautiful Cozumel afternoon...  We didn't catch any fish, but none of us seemed to care...
This coming week looks like we will be continuing the tough life we seem to have adopted for ourselves as we get ready for a whole bunch of people we know start migrating this way from those cold places the live....  More soon...
Cheers!
